Default downloading windows media player

My mother has windows 98 and just wants windows media player-can she download
it from this website? can she then use it with her mp3 player? thank you

Yes, from this website :

There are slight differences in versions. The most recent media player
she *can* run on Win98 is WM Player 9. That's if she has Win98 second
edition.

If she has the base (first edition) Win98 then it's recommended to run
WM Player 7 instead, get it from
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...7/default.aspx

The info for matching player version to operating system is listed at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win.../versions.aspx

To check if it's windows 98 first or second edition on there, find the
"My Computer" icon on the desktop. Right-click it and choose the last
item on the menu that pops up "Properties". It should say the Win98
version under the first part "System" of that page.
