Default WMP 10. Unwanted ripping of audio cds

Every time I put an audio cd into the cd drive, WMP opens and starts
ripping. I only want it to play.

I have unchecked Rip cd when inserted, and it still starts ripping.

Any suggestions or remedies gratefully received.

These steps might help further, as it could be an explorer problem

Open windows explorer.
Find your CD/DVD drive(s), and right-click them
Choose "properties" from the popup menu
Pick the "Autoplay" tab. On there :
Pick the "Music CD" dropdown item

It should list "action to perform" and you'd have Play an audio CD or
Rip music from CD.

Make sure Play an audio CD is selected, click Apply then OK out of
that. Repeat that for any other CD/DVD drives you have in the machine.

HTH
