Hi,
I need assistance. I am running Windows XP Pro (sp1) , WMP 10. I am trying to play a CD with a MPEG1 file and get the error message "Error downloading Codec." One or more codecs required to play the file could not be found. I have tried to launch the video directly. I have checked to make sure that codecs are being downloaded (weekly). I have checked for updates. I have re-installed DirectX. Nothing has worked - still the same error message. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Sounds like you installed some other MPEG decoding software that stomped on WMP's codec... or that the file in question is actually MPEG2. Does http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#mpeg2 help? -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. Thanks for the response - I was told that this was a MPEG1 file and could be
viewed on any computer. This particular CD was mass produced for my company. I have since found out that several other employees ((5) running Windows XP)) within the company get the same error message. We have tried numerous CD's from that particular batch - same error message. What concerns me is that this CD is to be sent to our customers. I will check out the MPEG2 possiblity. Any other suggestions? Thanks again! Without actually seeing the file, everybody else other than you is fairly stymied. =) From what you've said, sounds like it was actually an MPEG2 file... otherwise no codec would be missing, since MPEG1 decoders ship in-box. If it's *not* an MPEG2 file, post back. =) -Zach -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.
