I have seen this question 4 times on this newsgroup without anyone being able
to post a solution. When I try to play a DVD in Windows Media Player 10 on my widescreen LCD the movie always has black bars on the sides of the screen as well as the top and bottom. Even in fullscreen mode it will not fill the screen from side to side. Media player 10 is the only piece of software that causes me this problem. Realplyer, Win DVD etc do not have this problem. The native resolution of the LCD is 1360X768. If I change the resultion to 1024X768 then WMP fills the screen correctly (but since its not the native resolution it does not look as good). WMP does not seem to detect widescreen displays correctly (at least in some cases) I have the Nvidia decoders on my system which make the picture quality better in WMP much better than WINDVD or I wouldn't bother asking for a fix. I have tried all the video settings in WMP to no avail. I have downloaded the quartz.dll hotfix from Microsoft and it did not fix my problem. Can anyone help? Windows XP Pro/sp2 all updates including Media player Nvidia 6800 GT Athlon 64+3200/ 1 GB of RAM |

See, that's really helpful information. No one else has put up that much information yet. Checking 1360x768 on my LCD monitor, the player works great but Windows itself displays non-fullscreen. (Read: there's unused inches on every side of the desktop.) Given that, I'm suspecting that perhaps there's something deeper than WMP that doesn't like 1360x768. If you change WMP's Tools:Options:Performance display settings, does that change WMP's response or not? Is Windows "full-monitor" on your system? -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.
