Default Photo Story 3 Videos don't work with Media Player 8

I recently read the article about Photo Story 3
(http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...hool.mspx#bio1) and decided to use it to make my art project.

However, when I got the movie file to school, I realised that it didn't work
! At home, with Winows Media Player 10 it works fine, but on Windows Media
Player 8 at school only the sound plays, and the video doesn't, and on some
of the school computers that have Windows Media Player 9, it displays an
error message and doesn't play.

Why does this happen and how can I solve it ?
I really need it for my art project.

It sounds like the older computers don't have WMP's latest codecs. I don't
recall what codec Photo Story uses - do you have a sample clip I can look
at? Or it should say in the File:Properties during playback.

The Photo Story 3 application uses an optimised image codec to
compress the images and transitions to a small file. It's listed here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...9ImageVersion2

And it ought IMO to be available for download from here (but isn't)
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...cdownload.aspx

In general, WMP8 ought to go to the microsoft codec download site and
grab the needed codec (the Windows Media Video 9 Image Version 2) to
decode the image sequence. It would need the viewing PC to be
connected to the internet to do that.

If you can't do that, I would expect installing Photo Story on the
viewing machine will install the codec properly - but that depends if
the schools IT department let's you install software !

If nothing else works, you might be able to convert to the WMV 9
(video format) instead, but the file will be much larger and the
transitions won't be as smooth or cool.

Good luck with that BTW
