Default Sound Device Problem

I just installed a new sound card (Sound Blaster Live 24 bit). Windows Media
Player Ver 10 renders the following error message when I try to play audio
and will not play the file.

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with
your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your
computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be
functioning properly."

I can play the music using Real Player but not Windows Media Player.
Device Manager tells me the sound card device is working properly.

http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#dsound
should cover this. RealPlayer, Device Manager, and WMP all use the sound
card differently. =)

(speaking for myself and doing this in my free time)
See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.

Since you quoted Zach's link ... what were the results of the
suggestions there?

And is your mute button on?
