Default WMP9 won't play .mov files, and gives Error C00D1199 - SOLVED!

Bottom line, QuickTime Alternative (QT7 version) was causing problems with
Windows Media Player. Uninstalling it, and installing QuickTime Alternative
(latest QT6 version) corrected the problem. My system is now playing .mov
files and WMP is working correct now too!

The full story below...

Lastest QT Alt QT6 ver. works, QT7 ver. doesn't,
v1.55 QT6 vs v1.67 QT7 both pub 20051205
http://www.codecs.ipbfree.com/index.php?showtopic=861

My system...
- Intel Motherboard D875PBZLK with 512 MB memory;
- Intel P4 Processor 2.60CGHz 800FSB Skt478 HT;
- Windows XP Home with SP2
- Creative Sound Blaster Audigy LS with latest driver
- Matrox G550 AGP video card w 32MB memory

Problems experienced with QT Alt QT7 version
+ .avi files play fine (camera: Canon A95 creates .avi with sound)
- .mov files don't play (two cameras: Nikon 995 creates .mov without sound,
Kodak DX6490 creates .mov with sound);
- QuickTime Control Panel. When I click on the File Types tab it crashes and
says
"An exception occured while trying to run "shell32.dll,Controll_RunDLL
"C:\program files\quicktime alternative\QTSystem\quicktime.cpl"".

I uninstalled QT Alt (v1.67 latest QT7 version) and found that Windows Media
Player v9.0.0.3250 was now messed up...
- WMP won't play the older .MOV files created by Nikon 995 camera. This is
odd, as this format is supported by WMP.
- WMP plays .MOV files created by Kodak DX6490 camera, but the sound does
not play. This is weird, as by default WMP doesn't support this format so it
is weird that it can play this .MOV format, but it cannot play the .MOV
format that is does support. Wierd!

So I started searching for a solution to my problem and found this...

F.A.Q. http://www.codecguide.com/faq.htm
....quote...
Q: The newest version of QuickTime Alternative always crashes when I play
a .mov file or use the browser plugin
A: A few people have problems with recent versions of QuickTime Alternative.
These are based on QuickTime 7. The cause of the crashes is unknown. There a
two solutions:
- Install the stand-alone version of QuickTime 7. Download it HERE .
- Install a version of QuickTime Alternative that is based on QuickTime 6.

and this...
Newest QT alternative won't play .mov

MY SOLUTION:

I decided to try the advise in the FAQ (see above) to uninstall QT7 version
and install QT6 version. It worked! I installed QT Alt v1.55 (latest QT6
version) and now QuickTime Alternative is playing my .MOV files just fine.
And WMP9 is working fine now too! So, QuickTime Alternative (QT7 version)
was causing WMP9 problems, even after QT7 had been uninstalled, it's as if
QT7 uninstall did not fully restore to original state.

I hope this will help someone else. It's took me several days to sort this
out.
