Default C00D11CD: Unknown error

I am having a problem playing MPG and AVI files with MediaPlayer. It was
working fine for a while, then one day it just stopped. Now when I try to
play something, I get this message:
"Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error. This can occur when
another program or operating system component encounters a problem but does
not communicate the nature of the problem to Windows Media Player."

It worked before, so it shouldn't be a codec issue, but just in case, I have
uninstalled and reinstalled the codecs - but it didn't help. Also, I can get
the files to play on other players, so again, that would seem to rule out a
codec thing.

Thoughts?!?

Uninstalling and reinstalling codecs would rarely help, and is almost always
a bad idea in that the various multimedia options for removing/reinstalling
codecs are almost all maimed in part. =\

Can mplayer2.exe still play MPG/AVI?

Hello there. 1st time using this site. Getting similar message this past
week: Windows Media Player encountered unknown error. When I click on "web
help," note says that "they" are investigating the cause of this problem.
Have received this message in the past (1 or 2 times), and problem was
corrected within a few hours (no more than 24 hrs). Suddenly, last week I
rec'd message again, but it is still not working. Called radio station I
normally listen to and they are not having problems -- the person I spoke
with said he could access from his computer. Made a few phone calls to
Microsoft and was referred to this site (unless I care to pay $245 for tech
support!). I suppose it's possible that the COOD11CD error IS a common one
AND the techies are working on it AND that it IS taking over a week, but....

I would be highly annoyed if Media Player for some reason now does not work
because Windows 2000 is going out of circulation (or whatever -- was told it
would be totally obsolete in 2010).

You'd think one could play music on their computer in this day and age!
I've been doing so for the past 2 years for heaven's sake! GRRRRR.

Unless there's a dedicated developer working on your problem, getting an
answer in less than a week is completely unrealistic, really.

Beyond that, there's no possible way an aswer for all of 0xc00d11cd (Unknown
Error) could ever be found. It's just too broad of an error set, and your
issue could be any possible variation upon a variation of a version of a
part of a piece of a problem.

http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#isolate
is a more realistic starting point.

Let's repeat what I said:
Not even vaguely possible. The analogy would be going to your doctor and
saying "Ow", and then expecting treatment in full. 0xc00d11cd is a horrible
and useless error that provides neither you nor I with any value whatsoever.

Read the #isolate link I posted last post.
