Synchronisation to memory card

I'm trying to synchronise to a memory card, it works ok but will only synch
to the root folder on the card.
My smartphone only looks in a specific folder for audio files and therefore
can't see the synced files in the root folder.
Does anyone know how to get media player to sync to a folder lower than the
root folder on memory cards?
