After I installed some new codecs
(Codecs_6028_allin1[www.free-codecs.com]), Windows Media Player 10 started crashing to the desktop whenever I tried to open a .wmv file. There wasn't an uninstall feature for the codecs, so I tried rolling back to a previous version, which worked, but then I ignored the famous rule: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I reinstalled Windows Media 10 and it started crashing, so I rolled back to 9 and also rolled back Windows Media Format Runtime. This time, I was informed that Windows Media was corrupted and that I had to reinstall. So, I did. .WMV movies still crash the player to mydesktop and I can't roll back to Windows Media 9. I may try to install WM9 over WM10, but who knows what that will do. Does anyone know how to 1) uninstall the above codecs, 2) completely uninstall Windows Media Player? Maybe if I did that, it would help. LH |

Actually, you CAN uninstall the codecs. I finally found the
entry...duh! .WMV videos are working now. I am going to very tentatively upgrade to Windows Media 10 again (after having downgraded to 9). |

Okay, I upgraded to Windows Media 10 and rebooted. Everything is fine.

I read your problems and thought I'd ask you exactly what kind of codecs you
downloaded? I downloaded 10 and get the message that my windows media technology is not compatible with my version of windows. I downloaded what was on the page for XP. Can't play my music or videos. Thanks. -- Bevysue60 "Ladyhawk" wrote: > Okay, I upgraded to Windows Media 10 and rebooted. Everything is fine. > Stupid third-party codecs. ![]() > > |
