Please note that I have downloaded the most recent Windows Media Player,
version 10, and the most recent Codec set as well. I have also downloaded the most recent DivX codec set. And this problem appears to be related to web page embedded videos only. Flash based web video appears to work fine for me, hence all the trailers on movies.com work great. I have been trying to view news video footage at cnn.com, but each time I attempt to view a video I only get a blank embedded video screen that plays only sound. For instance, go to cnn.com, then under the heading "MORE NEWS" toward the bottom of the list it says "Oops -- Fire retardant kills state Christmas tree". I click this and get the result described above. This is not limited by any means to the cnn site. Another that does not work is the yahoo movies site. Go to http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808626781/trailer then click on the 'Cars' Trailer No. 1. When I do this I get again only a blank embedded screen with sound. Any ideas to try would greatly be appreciated. Thank you! |

Aha! Somehow I have done somthing to fix it! This is what I did for those
of you experiencing similar issues. I opened Media Player 10, open the Tools->Options menu. Click the Performance tab. Make sure that you have "Detect Connection Speed" selected and not a set speed. I just upgraded from a 56k dial up to a 1.5Mbp DSL line and this setting was still on 56k dial up in my Media Player settings. Also, if the video doesn't work after that, try moving your "Video acceleration" slider to the lowest setting and see if that fixes your movie or not. Merry Christmas! |
