Trying to re-install WMP 10 as Visualization and certain other features
aren't working, when played "behind" XP MCE 2005. I get "A more recent version already exists... cannot install". How can I remove WMP 10 completely in order to install it again, or how can I repair the bugs with visualization? -- Best regards, Nikolaj Johansen WMP: 10.00.00.3802 Windows XP Pro ver. 2002 SP2 |

You do NOT want to reinstall WMP10 in this scenario. Due to how the WMP10 installer works, you would lose critical functionality that you would never be able to regain without pretty much formatting the box. (That's not my code, and I'm as displeased about that as anyone.) So the fact that it blocks you? Awesome. You LOVE that. Let's move on. What's wrong with what viz and/or other features? -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. Here's what's wrong:
When playing music in XP MCE 2005 the visualizations doesn't work (only black screen), the song title etc. stays on (eventhough I have selected only at start/end of each song) and the volume indicator stays on, if I adjust it when playing music. Have tried to post in the MCE NG, but they sent me here, as it is a prob in the WMP. I know that re-installing WMP will solve, but I guess that's not an option as per your previous answer. -- Best regards, Nikolaj Johansen WMP: 10.00.00.3802 Windows XP Pro ver. 2002 SP2 "zachd [ms]" wrote: > > You do NOT want to reinstall WMP10 in this scenario. Which viz? What playback environment - within MCE or within WMP? How do you know that reinstalling WMP will solve this? What point or feature do you think that will buy you? Since the file integrity is protected by the operating system, the only thing you would possibly touch via a 'reinstall' is to reregister key dlls. Is that what you want? If so, here, run this: === cd c:\windows\system32 for %a in (wm*.dll) do regsvr32 %a === , and there, you've just totally proven to yourself whether or not a reinstall would fix this, as you've reregistered every WMP dll you care about. *shrug* I doubt that'll help, but I do want to make sure that you get the full value of the reinstall that you're trying to do here. =) From what you've said, it sounds like there's some problem MCE is having scripting against the player...? If the MCE people sent you here, did they provide you with any information telling you ~why~? -Zach -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. - No viz is working
- Playing in MCE 2005 - I know that a re-install will work, because I did it earlier (saw another post elsewhere). After re-installing XP and updating WMP with latest patches (because of a non-WMP related prob), the problem returned with viz and song title in MCE. Now it just wont let me re-install. I am not skilled enough to "decode" your suggestion - perhaps a more simplified version? Thanks for taking your time. -- Best regards, Nikolaj Johansen WMP: 10.00.00.3802 Windows XP Pro ver. 2002 SP2 "zachd [ms]" wrote: > > Which viz? That's about as simple as it gets. =) * Run "cmd.exe". * Enter the following two lines: === cd c:\windows\system32 for %a in (wm*.dll) do regsvr32 %a === If that doesn't make sense to you, check with a friend who knows computers a little better - it's a teeeensy bit technical, but if you can't make sense of that, you would want to contact actual product support as opposed to having peers try to provide you advice. =) -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.
