Default No Sound In Windows Media Play

I've got Windows Media Player 10, downloaded it about a month ago (I think, I
can't quite recall), and I've been having this issue before. Sometimes when
I go to play any song on the Player, be it CD or downloaded, it will start to
play, but I will have no sound at all. This goes for everything. I've
checked all the sound devices I've got, checked the volume on the computer,
and still nothing, what can i do?

I'm having the same problem with Media Player except that mp3s have sound but
DVDs don't - any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Zachd - how can I tell what dvd decoder I am using? Once I have identified
which decoder I am using, do I need to remove it?

Many thanks

First check the mute button next to the volume control. Then check all
the other recent threads describing "no sound" problems.

http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#mpeg2
should cover how to detect it.

If you have a compatible decoder, you should be fine, but having multiple
DVD decoders installed on the system is rather a headache and not generally
a wise idea since it's like having multiple steering wheels for a car. =)

Regarding Windows Media Player

I do not have Audio DSP. The only plug-in that seems to be there is
Visualization.
How do I download or activate the plug-ins I need?
This is the error message I receive when I try to download Version 10 in
hopes of having it come down with all the plug-ins. "MP10Setup-exe is not a
valid win 32 application".
I don't know how to install Audio DSP or any of the other DSPs missing. Can
anyone help?

If you get that message, either your download is corrupt or a download
manager is interfering with and breaking the download.

http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#dsound
is the general repository of knowledge for this issue and how to fix it....
