Default Trouble Installing Media Player10 and can't go back to Media Playe

I have tried to install MP10 and came up with "can not finish install"
statement. Tried to uninstall MP10 and to roll back to MP9, rebooted and in
control panel/add and remove programs it still was listing MP10 even after
uninstalling it. Tried to install version MP9 from web, and it said that
newer version was already installed.
Here is a copy of log:
Setup beginning.
=====Building Install list.
Finished building install list. Result: '0x0'.
Previous setup was incomplete: this setup will run in Reinstall All mode.
=====Updating Install list for UI.
FAILED: GetInstallSizeEstimate for
'C:\DOCUME~1\Mom\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP000.TMP\MPPRE10. inf': Result: 0x1.
FAILED: GetInstallSizeEstimate for
'C:\DOCUME~1\Mom\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP000.TMP\MPPRE10. inf': Result: 0x1.

if more info is needed please contact.

What happens if you run wmplayer.exe directly? It should actually work, it
seems...

Zachd,
I looked at my files and of the application files there was not at file
ending with .exe. When I did run the media player it still came up with the
same application error that I usually get. Right now I am at a no win
situation. I also use Rhapsody Music for my online music and it throws up an
error message of not being able to certifiy licenced music and when I found
the file that was sapose to have the licences in, it was empty, so I was
hoping that if I fixed this media player problem it then would fix the other
problem.

Those "errors" in wmsetup.log weren't errors. Unless there's some other
"ERROR: " entries in wmsetup.log, you should be okay.

What exact error do you get when you run wmplayer.exe? You can simply enter
"wmplayer.exe" at the Start:Run prompt to run it. =)

Ah. So the player's broken, but the install thinks the world is
peachy-keen. *groan*

There's unfortunately not an amazing amount to go on here. This is the kind
of thing that normally I would sit down on the computer and work through,
but since I don't have that luxury... I get to kiss wildly.

Err. Is mplayer2.exe functional? Does dxdiag.exe report any errors?

^-- Both these EXEs should already be on your system.

zachd, I also reviewed the wmsetup.log file per your direction in other

zachd
I am having the exact same problem described here. Running XPSP1. MP9
worked fine. Upgrade to MP10. Downloaded MP10Setup to hard drive and ran
it. Went through the process of extracting and running. Got to the end and
stated, "It was not possible to complete Setup. Windows Media Player 10 was
not installed. To update run Windows Media Player 10 setup again." Tried to
upgrade multiple times with same result.
I can click on MediaPlayer (or do a Run wmplayer.exe) and get an error "An
internal application error has occurred."
Per your note below, I was successful in doing a Run mplayer2.exe and a
dxdiag.exe showed no errors.
Rolling back to 9.0 doesn't work either because it thinks 10 is loaded.
Now what?

0x80070005 is "Access Denied". So maybe a security issue?

It's failing in the INF install. Those additional logs are in
%windir%\setupapi.log , if I recall correctly. What lines containing
"wmp10.inf" are in that file? =\
