I have an up-to-date XP machine.
I have been using Windows Media Player 9 for years with no problem. I downloaded the WM Player 10 setup several times. At the end of the attempted installation the message says. Cannot complete Windows Media Player Setup It was not possible to complete the Setup Windows Media Player 10 was not installed. To update Windows, run Windows Media Player 10 Setup again. I tried over 5 times with the same message repeated again and again. Thanks for your feedback AK |

In the file %windir%\wmsetup.log , what lines contain "ERROR: "? -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. I searched and cannot find an usable wmplayer.exe When I click on my wmv files are working fine through a player 10. It is weard. I dont' get it. I dont have a clickable player at all. Thanks for your suggestions AK "Streamer A" wrote: > I have an up-to-dated XP machine. > I have been using Windows Media Player 9 for years with no problem. > I downloaded the WM Player 10 setup several times. WMP's working fine on your system. Run wmplayer.exe and you're good to go. You were unable to create the directory: c:\documents and settings\all users\Documents\My Music\Sample Playlists and c:\documents and settings\all users\Documents\My Music\Sync Playlists and thus are going to not have the autoplaylists available. This should be due to a permissions issue on your system. This is a machine configuration issue (error) with your system that I know we're tracking for v.next. You can either fix this security/permissions issue on your system and reinstall setup and it should work, or you can run wmplayer.exe and be good to go. If you end up not being able to fix your system, save my email address ( zachd at microsoft dot com ). I'll be tweaking the installer for WMP v.next to both attempt to fix cases like yours as well as to not report install failure if only the playlist component fails install. HOWEVER, if you still have problems installing with v.next: make sure to yell at me. =) Cheers, -Zach -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.
