I have a bunch of MP3 songs that are not displaying in the library. I have
tried to scan for new, for new and old files. Nothing works. The songs play fine in media player and the advanced tag editor opens the info but the songs never appear in the library. I did notice that all songs are the "downloaded" songs. The only songs that appear in the library are my CD ripped songs. Any ideas? This worked n WMP9. Was WMP10 an upgrade or downgrade? |

I read all the postings. It was recommended to rename all the .wmdb files
with .bak and then restart WMP. Guess what, it didn't work. How can Microsoft mess up such a basic and fundamental functionality. This is a "must have" not a "nice to have" feature. Then they recommend this workaround of renaming ".bak". What's next.....touch your nose, rub your tummy and say uncle 3 times to get it to work. Make it work simply! I have 300+ songs hanging out on my hard-drive that I can't sync to my MP3 player because it doesn't show up in the library. I guess i should return the mp3 player for an iPod and use iTunes. What a joke! "sandshrimp" wrote: > I have a bunch of MP3 songs that are not displaying in the library. I have > tried to scan for new, for new and old files. This isn't the out-of-the-box answer, and I'm betting you didn't find that information on a Microsoft site. If you're going to blame Microsoft for me providing work-arounds for errors on your system, I respectfully have to ask you to not visit my site because you're completely misunderstanding what I'm trying to do and how I'm trying to help people. =) > I have 300+ songs hanging out on my hard-drive that I can't sync to my MP3 > player because it doesn't show up in the library. Yeah, there's lots of interesting articles out there about the technical and innovation ramifications of a closed locked-in ecosystem (Apple's approach) vs an open ecosystem (Microsoft's approach). It'll be interesting to see it play out over time - the closed system usually has the strategic advantage at the starting gate, but theoretically fades comparatively as those in the more open ecosystem are able to establish a more vibrant ecosystem. We'll see how things play out. =) Anyways, it looks like you're uncomfortable with community/peer support. You should contact actual technical support: http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#psssupport as opposed to taking advice from us knuckle-heads. =) -Zach -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. I'm very familiar with forums and how they work. I use them extensively.
Before posting, I searched for the answer to this issue and found various posts with the same issue. 2 of the posts had a reply from a Microsoft MVP that referred to http://zachd.com for a solution. Zach, it was great that you came up wth this workaround. The joke is that you needed to come up with this workaround (that didn't work for me) for such a fundamental function. If you have no music in library you can't do anything. I would classify this bug as a "blocker" and never have launched this version or I would have had a patch quickly. Who cares if its not "basic" to develop....its "basic" functionality, Every other media player I downloaded recognize "ALL" my files...what a concept. To bad my U10 player seems to only work with WMP10. Now you point me to a page that contains patches. Its ridiculous that others have to create a patch for Microsoft, the biggest and richest software company in the universe. Its also a joke that Microsoft does not have this issue in their knowledge database. In regards to yur comment on to Apples closed standard, I agree that open standards will win and are easier to work with other devices...like my XBOX Media Center. This is why I'm trying to ween my wife off the iPOD to a MP3 Player so I can have the files work with anything. But now that she can't access her music and does not have the technical skills to use the workarounds (she expects "basic" functionaity to work) she is returning the MP3 Player for a Nano and I'm stuck with Apple's "closed", crappy standard. I hate Apple and their closed standards. This is not a dig on you or any other forum member providing solutions....this is a dig on Microsoft....which i have the highest respect for. Back on topic: if you create a second user account on the system, can they find and scan these files? That should decide whether files are corrupt in some fashion or if it's your user account. -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.
