I have the exact same problem. It happened right after I installed Roxio
Easy Media Creator. If I uninstall it, the problem disappears. It may have something to do with a a codec conflict, but I'm not an expert in that. Does anyone know how to set the default codec for Windows Media Player? Forcing WMP to use certain codecs (in spite of others being available) might solve the problem. Hope someone can help.
