Paid for and downloaded music won't play in Windows Media Player V10. I get
a message: A security upgrade is required to play this file. Do you want to download the required upgrade? When I select yes, I get a message: Windows Media Player cannot play the protected file because the required security upgrade is not available for download. I went to http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/...it.asp?force=1 as noted in one of the posts here, and I get the exact same error messages I get when I try to play the music. We're running XP. The person whose PC this is thinks he may already have had V10 when he downloaded it again from a CD that came with an MP3 player. He did not run a setup (.exe) file at that time. There is a setup file that coincides with the date he would have downloaded, but it doesn't let me "run" it. Any help would be very much appreciated!! Thanks! -- Sparkle Plenty |

Why won't the EXE let you run it? What error do you get? What version of wmp.dll is on the system? What version of drmv2clt.dll is on the system? -Zach -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. For running the EXE -- I first get "The publisher could not be verified" then
when I say to go ahead anyway, I get: MP10 setup EXE is not a valid WIN32 application. Of the 6 wmp.dll files on the computer, most recent (dated 28-Jan-2005) has version 10.0.0.3802. For the drmv2clt.dll, of the five, the most recent is (also dated 28-Jan-2005) shows the same version as the wmp.dll. Thanks so much for any help you can give here. I am feeling very gulity that his music is unplayable since the MP3 player was a gift for me and I certainly am out of my depth in trying to fix this. -- Sparkle Plenty "zachd [ms]" wrote: > > Why won't the EXE let you run it? Then either you have a download manager that's interfering with your download, or the download was corrupt. In either case, you would need to redownload the EXE, since the copy you have is corrupt, if you're trying to reinstall it. But if you have 3802 on your system, there's no need for a further install of the player, that I'd be aware of. Note, though, that the problem downloading a correct version of mp10setup.exe may play into why you were unable to download the security upgrade on that system... ? -Zach -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.
