Default Encountering an error message when I'm trying to play a mpeg video

I'm encountering an error message when I'm trying to play a particular mpeg
video(.dat) file. Other mpeg video(.dat) files are playing alright.
Error Message: Windows Media Player cannot play this file. One or more
codecs required to play this file cannot be found.
Error message ID: C00D109B
I am using Windows Media Player 10, Version 10.00.00.3646
My Operating System is Microsoft Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002,
Service Pack 2
Can you help me out with this?

Sounds like that file is MPEG2... ?
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#mpeg2
may help in that case.
