can't play downloaded media

Default can't play downloaded media

I am running windows xp and have downloaded a clip that windows media player
can't play shows error number COOD1199. says it doesn't know what was used to
create the file or it may be compressed somehow? so what can I do to open it?

Sorry, you're out of luck. MOV files are only playable by Apple software.

You can install Quicktime.
Make sure you do a custom install and when you configure, uncheck almost everything except only those files specific to it. Don't let it start at boot, etc.

After that, if you have very many .mov files, I would search for a utility to convert them.
