Chris,
I am also getting the 800706BA error. As this thread didn't really provide a solution, and as the question you posed to the original poster wasn't answered, I'm going to answer it and hopefully we can find a solution to this problem. I get this error when I try to sync mp3s to external devices (RCA Lyra, Sony PSP, etc...) using the "Convert files as required by this device option" in combination with a manual quality level. If I disable conversion, the files are successfully sync'd. Also, this error does not occur for wma files. I had a look at the "Portable Media Serial Number" service settings you asked about. I found that it was set to "Manual". I tried to start this service, but got the following error: "Could not start the Portable Media Serial Number Service on local computer" "Error 1083: The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service." I also tried setting the service to "Automatic" and restarting, but the service did not start, and trying to start it again resulted in the previous error. Here are some of the settings for this service from my machine: Service name: WmdmPmSN Path to executable: "C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs" My OS details: XP Media Center Edition 2005 (completely up to date with Windows Update) Any help would be appreciated!
