Default Old File Icons

I am running Windows Media Player 9 Series (9.00.00.2980) on Windows ME
(4.90.3000). I use Windows Media Player for all my video, audio, etc.

I had been using WMP9 for about a week when all the file icons (avi., wma.,
wmv., mp3.) became the ones matching an old version of Windows Media Player
(the version with the yellow square around a blue 'play' sign, instead of the
black 'play' sign circled by a ring of yellow, blue, red & green) . I managed
to fix it once by switching to Winamp and then back to Windows Media Player
but the problem just arose again once I had shut down the computer, and I
can't fix it the same way I did last time.

What should I do to fix this?

Thanks, Marrow

What happens if you run:
c:\windows\inf\unregmp2.exe /RegExts
?

See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.
