Default no sound in video playback

The video appears fine, but there is no sound. This is media player 10, XP
sp2. I also use musicmatch Jukebox 10 for music library, ripping to cd,
recording, etc, and it appears to work fine.

Which video - from where ? (Hint : Online, DVD, local WMV file...)

Are you sure you haven't pressed the mute button, next to the volume
slider in WMP ?

I am having this same problem. I have checked everything and reinstalled
media player. I have sound on everything except dvd playback. When I play
cds or anything else on media player the sound is there. With dvds there is
perfect picture but no sound.

I posted another message to which noone has answered about losing the
volume/sound to playing midi files with WMP 10 on my windowsxp home sp1
computer. I don't have any problems with any other file format, just
midis and just in WMP.
Any ideas here?
Tim

WMP doesn't touch MIDI-
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#midi
has pretty much all the relevant info.

(speaking for myself and doing this in my free time)
See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.

Hmm can't find that, it could be anywhere (hundreds of posts a day to
just this newsgroup, and I watch about 15 regularly ;-)

Yes : I can't see where we've established you can play the midi files
in any other player so I'll have to assume you can't (other than
Quicktime, which uses its own MIDI player built into the software, not
the hardware MIDI on the sound card).

My take is that the sound card itself has a Mute function for MIDI
synthesiser built in, which they all have now. Go to

Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Volume Control

You should be able to select from the menu in Volume control :
Options -> Properties -> Adjust volume for playback.

Make sure to "show the following volume controls" and ensure MIDI is
selected (with a tick in the box), then check out the Volume sliders
and Mute checkboxes which you're shown.

The MIDI one should be at the top of the slide (full volume) and have
*no* check in the Mute checkbox at the bottom of the slider.

HTH
