Default Can't run Windows Media player v10.0.0.3802

I am unable to run Windows Media Player can anyone give me any ideas of
how to track down where the problems is?

Faulting application wmplayer.exe version 10.0.0.3802, faulting module
shdocvw.dll version 6.0.2900.273, fault address 0x0001780e

Also what controls what the version which is used for viewing movies?
as I don't appear to have a problem with wmplayer2.exe

I have tried re-installing but didn't work + replaced shdocvw.dll
still have the problem

Regards

Mark

That's the same fault bucket as Will....?
I haven't had (any) time to look into his crash yet, but offhand, and I'm
not sure if I had the right symbols loaded and I don't see any crash bucket
cabs more recent than 11/9 (?) and don't see any crash hits more recent than
12/12, but .... it looked like it was randomly the SRSWowSound or some other
sound processor DMO. But that doesn't make much sense in the same context
as shdocvw.dll, so I'll just chalk that up to me being reallllllllllllllly
tired after working 20 hours straight.

I'll follow up further on 235590229 in response to Will's thread when I get
a chance. But this is something I'm doing in my non-existant free time, so
do be patient. =)

I am more that convinced this is problem is some how related to the
latest virus attack.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4566504.stm
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec...ry/912840.mspx

The given away was renaming wmplayer.exe wmplayer.exe_old and it would
be replaced by another wmplayer.exe from somewhere. Have done a full
virus scan but have not found anything. Currently using version 9, as
the new version still has fault - very strange!!

wmplayer.exe is replaced by System File Protection when you try to delete
it. This is an OS design issue, and a Feature.

Your crash may be related to a virus issue, but your favorite anti-virus
vendor would probably be how to clean that up.
