Hello,
For some unknown reason WMP 10 will not recoginze the contents of the second or third CD in a set with the same album title after the first CD in the album is ripped. When attempting to rip, it shows the album name and the contents of the first CD. It will recognize different albums as will Windows Explorer. How do I get WMP 10 to recognize a second or third cd in a multiple CD set? Thank you. |

It's most likely an AutoPlay issue: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...r/faq.aspx#4_7 It's also possible that the online database doesn't distinguish between the different volumes. That's not an uncommon issue, and the only remedy is to manually update your data locally. When you do, make sure that each volume has a separate album title e.g. "War of the Worlds Disk 2" or you will just overwrite other volume titles. |

Thanks Mike,
I look at the Autoplay message before writing. As far as I can tell it is working as required. That is, I insert the CD and it bring up the window options to play or to rip (or to do something else). When I select either "play" or "rip" with the second CD of the set it brings up the library showing the contents of the first CD of the set. It's a commercial album "The Many Sides of Santanta." Each disk is labelled "Volume One", "Volume Two" and "Volume Three." WMP 10 only recognixes "The Many Sides of Santana." I am unable to re-label or re-name of the album. I tried copying the CDs straight from Windows Exlporer (from a previous version of Windows this was a snap with music files). However, when making copies this way the newly burned CDs won't play in my standalone CD player. I'm tired of paying Roxio for upgrades of the software, and the Real Player stuff is way too invasive. Figured MS has a good product that would do the trick. It probably can; I just don't know how. Thanks. You can tell which one this is (AutoPlay vs AMG) because in the AutoPlay case the information will show up correctly if they restart the player. -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. BV Baron,
I think it may be a problem with the Data Provider. I ripped the Sinatra Capitol Years (21 CDs) Box set a couple of nights ago and each CD was call Disk 1,2 etc. in my case there were some errors in the data which I corrected locally. |

That's just copying MP3 files to a CD, (rather than the reverse: copying/ripping from a CD). It's not the same as making an audio/music CD, which you need WMP or an equivalent for. Hi Mike
Under the Rip tab I added the Album column and then edited the album name to Santana Vol 1. I then deleted all the Santana songs from the libray. Next I returned to the rip tab and "Rip Music." In both the Rip and the Library panes, the album title now reads "Santana Vol 1." I thought this would do it. However, whenever I put in Volume Two of the Many Sides of Santana into the cd drive, all of the songs from volume one appear. It still doesn't recognize the songs in vol two or three. It seems like once I rename the album I need to flush the memory of WMP 10. I did notice when looking in the "My Music" folder that a folder now exists labelled "Santana vol 1" and another exists labelled "The Many Sides of Santana," which contains the same songs. I tried deleting the "Many sides" folder and reinserting the cd for vol 2 to no avail. I really do appreciate you trying to help. Thanks. If the online database is wrong then there is nothing you can do locally to fix the issue (assuming you haven't done a manual search for an alternate listing). You have to edit all the track data manually if the online data is missing or incorrect. Get used to it. I have thousands of CDs and are sizeable proportion are either misrecognized, missing or have incorrect track data in that database. Thanks again Mike. I guess you've answered the question although I don't
understand why WMP 10 requires on-line access just to rip and burn a cd. I have an old Roxio Easy CD Creator program I'll reinstall and go that route. Thanks again for your help. It only requires it to download track information. I > have an old Roxio Easy CD Creator program I'll reinstall and go that route. > Thanks again for your help. OK. But I don't see that it solves your problem. You just rip the CDs and type in the information.... Same as WMP, although sometimes it downloads the correct track info for you. |
