Default Problems with Windows Media Player

I am using OSX and WMP 9.x. The big problem is that it cannot open up
the files that my Zire 72 creates. Is there a way to import these files
to another format?

I downloaded a program called MPlayer OSX 2 or whatever and it can play
the files, but the sound is not qued in correctly.

Thanks for the tips

My Palm OS Treo (I'm assuming the Palm Zire is similar) creates movie
files that play in Quicktime, not Windows Media.
Have you tried opening them in your Quicktime player? Mine play fine.

No they are not. No the movies do not play in QuickTime.

Thanks for the tips though

Hello John,

Paul from Palm here. The video clips will be transferred to your Mac,
but to play them you'll need a separate Mac viewing software. The Mac
viewing software will need to support the ASF (MPEG4 video with ADPCM
audio) format.

Windows Media Player for Mac and QuickTime for Mac do not support the
ASF (MPEG4) format.

According to the Palm Knowledge Library article "Playing Zire 72 videos
on a Mac", there are freeware players available that support ASF. You
can find the details at
http://www.palmone.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=31642

Hope that helps

Best

Paul

Thaks a million for the information.

Well I don't have any of these fiels around here to play with, but isn't
there a chance that the Flip4Mac QuickTime codecs would support these
files ?? You could then play them in QuickTime player.
http://www.Flip4Mac.com/wmv.htm
Anyway, John could try witht he demo version first. Make sure that if
you dont want to keep the app, you uninstall it then reinstall WMP
completely (their installer deacivates the WMP internet plug-ins and
reinstalling it is the safest and easiest way to get it back to work).

Quicktime for OSX Tiger does not play Windows media Player Zire 72
files. But VLC does.

However I await the day when Quicktime supports this format. I'd like
to play these file within the OS.

Sure, but John, did you try installing the demo of the WMV codecs for
QuickTIme from FLip4Mac as I suggested ?? The phrasing of your answer is
not clear on this point.

:-D
.... not all exe files are viri and the link does not trigger the
download of a .exe file but rather leads to a rather well written
knowledge base that even points to the most recent version of the
suggested software through Version tracker Tuckows and Macupdate.
The link contains the string ".EXE" but it doesn't mean anything.
Here is the link I was redirected to:
http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/W...upportKB,ts=Pa
lm_External2001,Case=obj(31642)

Additionally, I might mention that .exe files that *are* viruses do not
infect Mac... ;-)

I have another option for you (but again since I don;t have any file in
the format you mentioned, I cannot test it myself first).
I read in the release notes of the DivX codecs for Mac references to the
ADPCM audio format. You can try installing their codecs (free) and see
if after that you can play these files.
The converter is shareware, but the playback module is free:
