I just 'upgraded' from WMP9 to WMP10. All was well with WMP9. I was able to
play videos from Yahoo and connect to streaming news broadcasts from out of town TV stations. With WMP10 all I get is the window showing that the program is 'loading', then a quick flash in the window, then a 'stopped' message. The video then tries to reload, and says 'The End' at times with the duration of the orgram...such as 2:10 for the last one I tried. No video, no sound. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition on a 2.5GHz Celeron, with 768Mb of memory. My ISP is Verizon DSL which connects fine and I bring it onto this machine via a Netgear 108Mbps wireless card. Everything worked with Version 9, now nada with 10? Ideas? Thanks! -- Alex |

Thanks for your co-misery, Marcel. If I could figure out how to go back to
WMP 9, I would...let's keep trying. -- Alex "marcel" wrote: > I got a similar problem since the upgrade 9->10!! Go to the Add/Remove Control Panel, check the Show Updates checkbox, scroll down to Windows Media Player 11. -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. Is it just online video that's failing? What about online audio, like the CD samples at amazon.com? http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#isolate -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. Thanks for your response, Zach. I'm somewhat of a novice (no kidding) and I
think I've really screwed myself up now. I tried the Amazon on-line CD service..tried to play a sample track. It gave me the "save" option only...not "Run". So, I saved it to the desktop...tried to pplay it and WMP10 did not recognize the file type and wouldn't play it. Next, I went to Add/Remove...checked the "Show Updates" box, found WMP10 and rolled it back. It looks like it rolled back all the way to version 6. something..and I'm sure I had 9 on the system. Anyway, I then tried to reinstall WMP10...it downloaded fine, but after the 'extract' phase I got the nig red X and the message that says..."This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows." Yikes!...and I can't figure out how to get past this fatal. I'm running a validated version of Windows XP Home, SP2, have downloaded the SP1 for IE6, et al on a 2.4GHz Dell with 768Mb memory. Can't get much more legit XP than that. HELP!!!...please...Thanks! -- Alex "zachd [ms]" wrote: > > Is it just online video that's failing?
