The information displayed at the bottom of WMP 10 about the song being
played does not always display correctly. An example would be: Playing: 64 K/bits second, Album: 1961, Song: Runaway, and Artist: Various Artist. The artist should read Del Shannon. In the library master the artist displays correctly and Various Artist shows up under Album Artist. If the Album Artist is blank or the Album Artist and the Artist are the same, the Artist will display correctly for the song being played. How do I get the correct artist to show up when Artist is displayed. Thanks for your time, |

It appears that WMP is only capable of displaying one artist at a time and
uses the last artist name found. This causes weird issues like only seeing one artist listed when you have multiple artists (in a semicolon tokenized list) or seeing the Album Artist instead of the "Artist". Basically WMP reads the Album Artist field after Artist, so if anything is in the Album Artist field, it overrides the Artist field for display purposes. P.S. I really hope that WMP 11 and the Vista shell fix these issues with tokenized lists. (Is anyone listening?) ? The "scroll display" Slick is asking about displays the Album Artist. That is contextually not a multiple value field, and isn't 'weird' - it's by design. The scroll display is a simple display not meant to scroll through multiple values in the field - for that information, you would use the Media Library.... -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. zachd,
Is there any way to get the schroll to display the Artist as opposed to the Album Artist short of deleting all data in the Album Artist field or moving the artist to the Album Artist field? As noted, nope. It's something Josh and I've bandied about. But there's always bigger/more interesting fish to fry... =\ -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.
