Default Windows Media Player 10

I had WMP 9 and downloaded 10 as it seemed to be a better option (and now is
the only option) for Windows XP. I tend to mainly play CDs and DVDs with
Windows Media Player and they had been working...until today.

Now, while I know the audio CDs are being read (due to the visualization and
the continuation of the time for each song), there is no sound. I also tried
to play some local files (C drive) and the response is the same. However, I
have sound for my other media player, Arcade, and for all other functions on
my computer. I've tried a number of the troubleshooting processes but
nothing seems to work. It doesn't seem to be much to ask a software program
to simply play audio CDs, none of which are burnt - all are original. From
the discussions I've read, Windows Media Player 10 sounds like it's causing a
lot of problems. Can anyone help me with this one?

I bet your mute button (next to the volume slider) is on.
