WMP 10 opens then it won't

Under XP Home SP2 WMP 10 works for a while then it won't open.
Somethimes rebooting fixes what's wrong but sometimes I have to do a
complete re-install. No rhyme or reason. It works until it stops
working: double clicking on the icon gives an hour glass of a few
seconds and then nothing happens....that's my cue to use real player
or winamp until I can reboot or fix it. What is going on and is it
something I can fix??

You should be watching football!!! No, it just doesn't open....the
first time it "doesn't" open it flashes an hour glass for a few
seconds and then doesn't open. After that, nothing. Can't say I have
looked at Task Manager to see what may be happening. Reboot gets it
back. Next time it goes south on me, I will see if Task Manager shows
anything.

OK, it did it again and no, there is nothing in Task manager. It just
doesn't open. I can use it three-four times before it starts this
business of not opening.

Is this something that either WMP ver 10 or other applications do when
something is dinged??

Are you checking under Processes in Task Manager? It may still be listed as
"wmplayer.exe" there...
