Today I got a prompt to download the fix for KB896424. I have
automatic updates set to notify me but not download or install. I checked all the updates, clicked on the download button and the window disappeared. I got no error message whatsoever. I waited but nothing was installed. Later today I saw that windows won't download on its own so I went and downloaded the fix and installed it on my own. Why is this happening? |

Hi,
I keep getting 'Error Code: 0x8007F004' when trying to install this. When I use Windows Update to try again it says: - Download size (total): 0 KB * - Estimated time at your connection speed: 0 minutes * - (*Downloaded; ready to install) So it appears this is ready to install, but for some it keeps failing with this error. Thanks for any assistance. In future, please being a new thread about /your/ problem and errors, Ricta,
instead of "piggybacking" onto someone else's thread. Windows version? If WinXP, are you using Automatic Updates to install this and other updates? Have you tried logging in as Administrator to install this update? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), AH-VSOP Ricta wrote: > I keep getting 'Error Code: 0x8007F004' when trying to install this. > When I use Windows Update to try again it says: > - Download size (total): 0 KB * > - Estimated time at your connection speed: 0 minutes * > - (*Downloaded; ready to install) > > So it appears this is ready to install, but for some it keeps failing with > this error. <snip> |

And it would be better if it had given some error message instead of me having to look in the log file to get a cryptic entry. |

OK, sorry.
Windows Version: XP Pro 2002 SP2 Auto Updates: Yes. Have also tried using Windows Update site and that's where I found the error code. Auto update just tells me 'Updates were unable to be successfully installed' Administrator: Yes Re-booted: Yes "PA Bear" wrote: > In future, please being a new thread about /your/ problem and errors, Ricta, > instead of "piggybacking" onto someone else's thread. > > Windows version? Fine but understand that by doing so, you're pushing all the Automatic Updates users further back in the queue (which may explain, at least in part, why Automatic Updates hadn't brought them in for you yet). > And it would be better > if it had given some error message instead of me having to look in > the log file to get a cryptic entry. This has now successfully installed ... no specific action taken on my part. Ricta "Ricta" wrote: > OK, sorry. > > Windows Version: XP Pro 2002 SP2 > > Auto Updates: Yes.
