When I try to install this update for Windows Media Center 2005 the setup
fails, even when I've downloaded it manually. Removing .net framework 1.1 or components wont help. Foutcode: 0x643 (errorcode) What's wrong? |

Wytse,
From http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900325 : " Note To install this update, you **must have Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and .NET Framework 1.1 SP1** installed. Windows Update detects whether these packages are installed. Windows Update automatically installs these packages for you. If the 886904 update is installed, you **must uninstall the 886904 update** before you install Update Rollup 2 for Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. Otherwise, the .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 installation will not succeed. " Does that clear things up ? I have removed the KB886904 fix and re-installed the .net framework 1.1 SP1.
The rollup couldn't install. I've tried to download the rollup 2 manually from microsoft.com and tried to install also manually, but he failed. Then he runs system restore. The last message I saw in MCE was that he was installing: Hotfix voor Windows XP (KB895961) Then he sayd he failed and had to restore. ![]() "MowGreen [MVP]" wrote: > Wytse, > > From http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900325 : > > " Note To install this update, you **must have Microsoft .NET Framework > 1.1 and .NET Framework 1.1 SP1** installed. Is there an error message associated with the failed install of the
Update Rollup ? Who runs System Restore - is the update doing it after failing to install ? Try this - Show hidden files, folders, and system files : http://snipurl.com/f4cx Create a temporary folder on the Desktop. Name it Temp. Navigate to the WINDOWS\Installer folder. Move all the contents of that folder to the newly created Temp folder on the Desktop. Now try to install the Update Rollup. Whether it succeeds or not, move all of the contents of Temp back to WINDOWS\Installer afterwards. Did that allow it to install ? There's no specific error.
And when I try to install manually (I've Administrator rights) he opens Media Center with the message that he's installing. but then suddenly he says he failed(no error) and automatically when I press OK runs System Restore. Clearing the c:\windows\installer folder wouldn't help So I just puteverything back in. Don't know how to solve ![]() btw: some programs I try to install won't install either. example: norton internet security 2005 and NOD32 (both no errors) I've scanned for spyware found some and deleted ( www.hitmanpro.nl dutch). But it has no effect ![]() Any ideas? ps. I've always the explorer in the mode he shows everything: hidden or not, system or not don't like someone is hiding something for me![]() "MowGreen [MVP]" wrote: > Is there an error message associated with the failed install of the > Update Rollup ? Yeah I got it (h)
first I've removed EVERY update i could find in Add/Remove software in Configurationscreen or how you call it in englisch. That was a lot of work, but after that i runned Windows Update and it worked ![]() I think it has something to do with the ehome infrared thing update i earlier had to install, maybe uninstalling worked. but uninstalling every update worked after that installing .net framework 1.1 and SP1 for .net framework 1.1 of course ![]() Now I must restart... ciao "Wytse Talsma" wrote: > When I try to install this update for Windows Media Center 2005 the setup > fails, even when I've downloaded it manually.
