Liveupdate and manual update for XP downloads the update files but
fails to initialize and install. I am receiving error code 0x80240016 in the log file. In researching the error code, I believe XP thinks there is a pending install that must be completed before the update can install. Unfortunately, I cannot find any pending installs that need to be stopped. This problem started with the December Critical Updates. I have tried the solutions posed here but none have worked. I rebooted. I also cleared my cache, deleted all temp files, deleted the downloaded but uninstalled updates, reregistered the files indicated in other messages posted here. I also ran tune up utilities to see if I had any registry problems. I have turned off live update because otherwise I end up in an endless loop of downloading, unable to install because of this error code and the deleting the failed install files. I there a specific registry entry that I can change to tell XP SP2 that there are no pending or failed installs so that maybe the updates can be installed? Also would a system restore help? Thanks. |
