Default WU will not install KB828741 and KB828732

I just installed XP Home on a new hdd. I installed two drivers (one for
ethernet and one for SATA controller) and proceeded to do all the windows
updates. I was doing fine until I reached KB828741 and KB828732. They both
downloaded fine, and it acts like they were being installed but it says
'Failed.' Log says:

Ive tried to do each individually with no success. I can do other updates
just fine.

Ive rebooted many times. Ive turned BITS on to auto. Nothing is running in
my background including firewall, anti-virus or anything else.

Thanks in advance for help

Default RE: WU will not install KB828741 and KB828732

I was able to get the KB828741 installed. Even though numerous attempts to
download it and install it manually have failed, i decided to try it in safe
mode. Installing this file manually in safe mode worked.

However, this process did not work for KB828732. When i attempt to install
it manually i get

Setup can not copy the file msgina.dll
Ensure that the location specified below is correct, or change it and insert
'Windows XP Hotfix Source Files' in the drive you specify.

It gives me the option to 'retry' 'cancel' and 'browse'

Your previous correction was KB835732 so look at the TechNet
article about this security update (aka MS04-011).
Specifically look at the file manifest for your OS.
Check current file versions in case the update has been partially applied.
Tip: filever (e.g., from the Support Tools) is helpful when doing this.

Check the status of that module extra carefully then.
E.g. when I use tasklist to check mine (XPsp2)
I can see that there is no way that this could be replaced
except by renaming it during a reboot:

tasklist /fi /"Modules eq msgina.dll"

Check the permissions of that module using cacls msgina.dll

Check with the log file to see if that renaming was being set up.

Check the log file (and any other diagnostics) the install created
in case there is something else blocking a successful install.

Details? What was the location "below"? Did you try to find it elsewhere?
Etc. Hint: you should be able to use File Find (e.g. Win-F)
instead of poking around with Browse...
