Default Installed Update Keeps appearing

I have a laptop running Windows Me. Not used very often, so knew it required
updating. I've downloaded and installed all outstanding updates. Now, if I
rescan, I keep being advised of one "Critical Updates and Service Packs"
requiring to be installed. This is "Critical Update for Windows Media Player
Script Commands (KB828026)" The installation history shows that this has
been downloaded and installed FOUR times already.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how I can stop the update from
being reported.

WMP9, KB828026 keeps being re-offered.
MS Support finally solved the problem this way:
1. Boot into Safe Mode.
2. Search for any and all WMP or WMP.DLL files and delete them.
3. Re-boot into Normal Mode.
4. Re-download WMP and then KB828026.
5. Re-boot.
6. Check to see if download was offered again (it wasn't).

Hi, I have had this problem also. Go to my computer, local disl C , click on
search. Type in WMP.DLL, click search. When file comes up, right click on it
and click on rename. Type in : 828026.reg. Go back to windows update in
reinstall KB828026. This should tale care of your problem. It did mine. I

Bonnie,

Thanks for response. Looks like you and Unk have come up with the same
solution so thank you both. I'm sure the solution will work.
