My Windows Update setting has changed from 'download but let me choose when
to install' to 'automatically download and install'. I don't like this new setting, nor the fact that it changed without my knowledge. When I try to change it back, all the settings are greyed out and I have no option to change. This is true with my regular domain account and with my local administrator account. Both accounts are part of the administrators group. How can I change back? |

Hmmm. sounds like you need to talk to somebody in your IT department who's managing your update services program. From the sounds of things, /you/ cannot change it back. It's been changed for you -- by domain policy. Actually I am one of the 2 people who looks after network issues in our
company. My machine is a laptop and I still can't do it at home where I have no access to the group policy and I log on locally. Incidentally, my wife's laptop is in the same domain (and home!) and she can change her settings without any problem. I don't know how you got stuck on AUOption 4.
Try OFF (no automatic updates) via regedit: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update] "AUOptions"=dword:00000001 "ResetAU"=dword:00000001 "ConfigVer"=dword:00000001 That may cause security center to reconsider locking you out, and return access to AUOptions 2(notify) and 3(download only). The /computer/ group policy is cached. Once applied.. it sticks, even if you
log onto a non-domain account while disconnected from the network. Okay... so you are one of the two people who looks after network issues in your company. Who's the other person? Who configures Group Policy? Who configured /this/ Group Policy?
