Which particular update is giving you problems?? - I have an easy solution
for one particular problem of this kind.

I haven't begun installing any of them yet. I have had this whole process
happen once before and there were multiple updates that I ended up installing
multiple times. However, windows update still was reminding me that I had
updates to install. In other words, I had installed a handful of these
updates multiple times and windows was still saying that they needed to
install. When I asked questions about this, I was told that certain updates
had to be installed in a certain order. In other words, some updates will
not show as being installed unless they are installed in proper order.
Therefore, before I install ANY of the updates this time, I want to know
which order to install them in. It isn't any particular one as of yet. I am
trying to avoid future problems with this by installing them correctly the
first time

You misunderstood (and misquoted). This process has happened to me before.
I was describing a previous experience in my last post. I do not want update
issues to happen again, so I want to know the proper order prior to
installing any updates.

What I am looking for is a complete list of the order in which Windows
Updates came out and/or should be installed beginning in mid 2001 and
continuing through today. I have 31 updates that windows update says need
installing. Previously, I tried to install them all at once and it got all
screwed up. I am not having problems with my computer. I am not having
problems with 1 particular update. I simply want a comprehensive list of the
order in which to install the 31 updates so that after I install them, my
computer isn't telling me every day that I need to install updates that I
have already installed.

I thank everyone for their time in trying to help. I am sorry for not
conveying myself clearly initially. Would it help if I posted a list of the
31 updates I need to install?

Not really - Just install them all, in batches of about 2-3 (starting with
the System Restore patch 290700, followed by Internet Explorer 6SP1), and
make a note as they go in. Use Belarc to check that the install was good,
and then proceed with the next batch.

See Noel's last reply. Using the Windows Update Catalog
(http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...n/default.asp), you can find
and download most updates for WinME. Many recent Critical Security Updates
are only offering to Win9x users via Windows Update.

I'd encourage you to use Windows Update to install all patches and updates.
The relatively minor problem you ran into before...

....(assuming the update was 837009) is a known bug in the way Windows
Updates has been offering Outlook Express updates to (mainly) Win9x users.
It's easily fixed if you run into it again, Danny.

It's not a perfect world and it's /not/ unknown for Windows Update to offer
/any/ user an update that's already been installed, hence these heavily
trafficked pages:

I have already installed 828026 and now Windows Update says it is still
needed. I have installed this update several times.

Also, you *may* still be able to order the Windows Security Update CD via
the MS Order Desk. The CD contains all updates released through 31 Oct-03
(including IE6 SP1). Having it on hand can be helpful if you find yourself
having to reinstall Win9x.
