Hello -
I recently installed a fresh copy of XP + SP2. When I visited Windows Update I had a ton of updates that needed to be installed. One of the first updates I did was the latest update to the .Net Framework, 2.0. After I downloaded and installed the updated, rebooted, and went back to Windows Update, the site listed that I still needed the 1.1 update and 1.x service pack! Doesn't the latest 2.0 update supersede the other 1.x updates for the ..Net framework? -Mike |

No - you still need the older version to run .NET programs written using it.
Version 2.0 will not run 1.1 programs. "Mike D." <me@you.com> wrote in message news:eEAiipn6FHA.224@TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... > Hello - > > I recently installed a fresh copy of XP + SP2. This is not entirely true. ..NET Framework v2.0 /should/ run .NET Framework v1.x applications, but there are no guarantees that it will. It really depends on the classes and methods configured in the application, and whether it uses anything that was changed in the upgrade. If any issues with .NET Framework v1.x applications are encountered, the appropriate solution is to reinstall the .NET Framework v1.x redistributables. As for Mike's note, the reason that WU says that he "...still needed the 1.1 update and 1.x service pack" is because he already has both versions of the ..NET Framework v1.x installed and they need to be updated. But the direct answer to the question in Mike's last sentence is: No, the 2.0 update does not "supercede" the v1 Frameworks, but it can, possibly, replace them, depending on the applications depending on v1.x code. |
