If you installed the KB896688 Update you very well may have lost your Flash
Player (along with some other embedded media) There are several fixes available depending on your OS. Try: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909889 or: http://patch-info.de/IE/Downloads/OLEfix.zip If using Windows 98: 1. Click Start, click Run, type Notepad.exe, and then click OK. 2. Paste the following text in the Notepad document: REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}] @="ClassMoniker" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\InprocServer 32] @="ole32.dll" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProgID] @="clsid" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\CLSID] @="{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}" 3. Click File, and then click Save. 4. In the Save in box, click Desktop. 5. In the File name box, type KB909889.reg. 6. In the Save as type box, click All Files, and then click Save. 7. Click File, and then click Exit. 8. On the desktop, double-click KB909889.reg, and then click Yes to add the information to the registry. 9. Click OK to confirm that the information in the KB909889.reg file has been added to the registry. 10. Restart the computer. Hi,
Note that you have a line wrap issue in the text you posted for the reg file content. Ottmar Freudenberger have made available the reg file on his Web site (using the REGEDIT4 heading so it will work on all Windows versions): http://patch-info.de/IE/Downloads/OLEfix.zip Here is my standard answer when this issue pops up: <quote> See if this helps: Download the file OLEfix.zip available here (it is a registry file that origin from MS Support, and it has fixed the ActiveX problem for several people, getting this problem after installing KB896688): http://patch-info.de/IE/Downloads/OLEfix.zip Extract it and double click the contained OLEfix.reg file. Click Yes on the dialog box that asks you if you are sure to add the information in OLEfix.reg to the registry. You may have to reboot your machine afterwards. More about this issue here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909889 </quote> Regards, Torgeir Marcus wrote: > If you installed the KB896688 Update you very well may have lost your Flash > Player (along with some other embedded media) > > There are several fixes available depending on your OS.
