Windows Update Error

Posts: n/a
Default Error Code: 0x80246001

Trying to download and install Windows Update - Malicious Software Removal
Tool- November 2005. It won't even download, it fails when trying to
download. I have no viruses or spyware, or anything like that. When I go
into details I get Error Code: 0x80246001.

You guys got any ideas? Please help...

I have the same problem on 1 Windows 2000 Server sp4. I hope someone
has a cure for this.

Hi,

Rename (or just delete) the SoftwareDistribution folder and
see if it helps.

You can use the procedure described here:

http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=21&ln=en

Note that a side effect of renaming or deleting the
SoftwareDistribution folder is that you lose your Windows Update
History listing (not critical).

(later on, you can just delete the renamed SoftwareDistribution
folder)
