I cannot install the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - November 2005
(KB890830). It seems to download and then will not install telling me there was an installation failure. When I check the download history it reveals error code Error Code: 0x80246001. I have searched on this code but no one seems to know what it means Anyone out there can help please? Aitionn |

Please try:
- Stopping the Automatic Updates service - Deleting the %WINDIR%\SoftwareDistribution folder - Starting the Automatic Updates service You'll eventually get re-prompted to download / install the update again and the install should then succeed. Thanks BUT windows will not let me delete the folder you suggest saying files
are in use. I have just found some advice on this site and downloaded the tool directly.
It works fine but still leaves the problem of why it won't download through the update system http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en "Aitionn" wrote: > Thanks BUT windows will not let me delete the folder you suggest saying files > are in use. > > "Matt Braverman [MSFT]" wrote: > > > Please try: > > > > - Stopping the Automatic Updates service > > - Deleting the %WINDIR%\SoftwareDistribution folder > > - Starting the Automatic Updates service > > > > You'll eventually get re-prompted to download / install the update again and > > the install should then succeed. > > > > Matt > > > > "Aitionn" <Aitionn@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > > news:8E53799A-FB08-44B3-8615-B7A0C680F267@microsoft.com... > > >I cannot install the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - November > > >2005 > > > (KB890830). That's caused by not stopping the Automatic Updates service as mentioned by Matt. Start -> Run -> services.msc -> Automatic Upates Bye, Freudi |

Actually I just rebooted after I stopped the services and then it let me
delete the folder, and then I restarted my computer, and then turned updates back on and it worked! thank you very much!
