auto update disabled and greyed out
Auto Update has been disabled and greyed out in Security Center, and SC can't
turn it on. Unable to get to update site manually either. IE just hangs. (Event ID 1002). OS is XP Home SP2 running on sony vaio. Your time and wisdom greatly appreciated. Thanks.

BTW - WindowsUpdate.log mentions that wu agent finds 2 persisted download
calls to restore but warns that it failed to update backup store. Not sure what that all means.
