Default Microsoft.NET framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Well guys after 4 hours of messing with this I can tell you what worked for
me. With any luck it can guide you too.

1. Download Windows Install Clean-Up program at
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301 and install.
(You can find it in the programs section of your start menu after install)

2. Download .net framework 1.1 (file name dotnetfx.exe) at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en (dont install yet)

3. Download .net service pack 1 (file name NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86.exe) at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en (dont install yet)

4. Run Windows Clean-Up and remove the defective .net framework, Reboot.

5. Go to the start menu, then run. Type in "msconfig" and set it to
Diagnostic and then reboot to prevent other software from getting in the way
of the install.
Information from Peevee
I didn't applied previous line 5 why?
Couldn't install Run dotnet.exe for a fresch new .net install.
Without line 5 all went well

6. Run dotnetfx.exe for a fresh new .net install

7. Run NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86.exe, it will prompt that its already
installed, do it anyways.

8. Go back to msconfig and set it back to normal, reboot.

9. Run the regular windows update thru website or automatic service.

It should now do the update that previously resulted in errors. Good luck!

Default Re: Microsoft.NET framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Hi, I read this most helpful post yesterday and it helped me solve my
problem installing .Net Framework 1.1

Recap my problem: When attempting to download and install .Net Framework
1.1, the update downloaded successfully but would not install. The
process appeared to hang and after many hours would give me a failed to
install message. I tried several times and got the same results. I try
every couple of weeks :-).

Well, following the instructions below, I kicked off dotnetfx.exe from
below steps. That process notified me it would need top stop the "World
Web Web Service". I said sure go ahead :-). Guess what, it hung up and
never stopped. Aha!! After rebooting, I went into Add remove programs
- Windows components, I selected IIS, clicked the details button and
removed the WWW Service. I of course can reload it in the future if I
need to.

After that, after rebooting, I went back to windows update and this time
..Net Framework 1.1 installed perfectly.

Thanks for your post !!
