I contacted symantec and they said win millinium is not compatible with
norton internet secrurity 2006. They said they would give me my money back
but I already uninstalled norton 2005. It seems MICROSOFT SHOULD PROVIDE A
SMIPLE WAY TO UPDATE THEIR PROGRAM SO WE CAN USE THE NEW ANTI VIRUS PROGRAMS.

quoting them exactly, is also a bit off, as the correct quote should be:
"Norton Internet Security 2006 is not compatible with Windows Millenium
Edition".

Operating System companies write operating systems for specific hardware
platforms.

Applications Software companies write application programs (including
antivirus and internet security software) for specific operating systems.

If Symantec chooses not to write a product for Microsoft Millenium Edition
(which, btw, is now almost six years old), then your beef is with Symantec for
not doing what they /could/ do if they chose to do so.

NOT with Microsoft, who /DID/ update that program (Windows ME) -- it's called
Windows XP, and was originally released in 2002.

If you want to upgrade.... go down to Best Buy, write a check for $99 plus
tax, and buy a copy of XP Home Edition Upgrade, which will happily upgrade
your Windows ME to Windows XP Home Edition -- and your NIS 2006 will happily
install on the XP Home Edition.

Your remark caught my eye.

The whole problem with Millenium is that hardly anyone writes programs
compatible with it cos hardly anyone has been able to keep it running for
this long.

It was a disgusting O/S that never worked satisfactorily and Microsoft
should have given Millenium buyers XP Home Edition free of charge AND with
their apologies.

Millenium in latin may well mean 'a thousand crashes a year' in the minds of
Microsoft bods.

I lost hundreds of hours repairing and reinstalling it and finally when I
had a hardware failure, the shop refused me my garantee saying that I had
changed the configuration.

So please don't be too hard on Millenium users (who have already paid for a
duff product) if they don't want to splash out again.

I wasn't at all directing my eye at Millenium users, merely at the misdirected
complaint. In the instant case, the incompatibility of NIS2006 with WindowsME
(notwithstanding the general P.O.S. status of WindowsME), is mostly a function
of the fact that WindowME is six years old, beyond its support lifecycle, and
Symantec knows there's no market (assuming the product can actually be written
to run stable) for NIS of any time on WindowsME. The poster's complaint
towards Microsoft that his product has not bene updated is inaccurate.

I had the initial loading error when I tried to install it on Windows XP PRO
64.
I spent an hr, looking everywhere for a compatible patch to no avail. I
also cant load the software for my scanjet for similar reasons. An
incompatibility with the operating sys. I was wondering if there was a quick
fix for the 32 bit stuff that needed to be installed.

In general, installation of /hardware/ tools and applications on a 64-bit
system may encounter issues with the 32-bit products, as they were not
designed for use on a 64-bit operating system. The 'fix' is to get a 64-bit
driver and application(s) from the hardware vendor.
