Default crypt32 event id 8 errors

Hi
I dont know if this error is being caused by windows update

In the last week or so I've been getting hundreds of crypt32 event id 8
messages in the event log.

Failed auto update retrieval of third arty root list sequence number from:
en/authrootseq.txt with error.

The messages in the log come in sets of four with the following as the last
sentence:
This network connection does not exit.
or
This operation returned because the timout period expired.
or
The server cannot perform the requested operation.
or
This network connection does not exist

Any suggestions as to what might be wrong here.?
Thanks

Default RE: crypt32 event id 8 errors

Mike,
I am having the same problem, but with only one of my machines. None of my
machines have access to the windows update website, however only the one I
mentioned has the issue. It also seems to be effecting the loading of a users
roaming profile as well as effecting an application running off of a drive
mapped to a network share.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Please describe your connection path (e.g. firewall, proxy, etc.)
It looks as if you might have a blockage in it for some reason.
Try to bypass any potential blockages if possible.
If you are trying to do port blocking be aware that you must allow
both 80 and 443 (for HTTP and HTTPS) for Windows Update
and its related sites to work properly.

One known cause of related problems is software called Web Accelerators
which try to use the Hosts file to speed up DNS lookups. That technique
is not applicable to sites which have a large number of IP addresses which
are frequently changed, such as the ones WU uses.

Test the addressability and connectivity of that site name in a cmd window
(e.g. using nslookup, and ping -n 1 or telnet 80)

www.download.windowsupdate.com

Hmm... apparently that whole URL is quite accessible

http://www.download.windowsupdate.co...uthrootseq.txt

Alternatively, there should be timestamps on your event log records.
Try to correlate them with what was happening at that time in the
WindowsUpdate.log Etc.
