Default Windows/MS Update getting worse

I'm finding more and more of my machines can't manually update - is anyone
else noticing this? I have three laptops at home (XP Home, OEM installed) and
currently two of the three require me to log in on a different, newly created
account.

Now my work machine is unable to manually update (Win2K, OEM installed).

So far all machines seem able to apply automatic updates but obviously that
doesn't give me everything I need. It all seems to have happened since MS
pushed the new update software.

Default RE: Windows/MS Update getting worse

We had just one huge disaster since the release of .NET 2.0 release version.
The installer was also a disaster (and such a joke as a program anyway).

After 1.5 weeks or trying to move forward we removed .NET 2.0 release
version and all the 'release' versions of the big MS tool rollout.

After opening 2 support cases with the MS support team we were just able
to strip clean the machine by hand from failed uninstalls of .NET 2.0 and
all the tools that use it.

Our experience was the worst we EVER had with ANY software product.
