Hi all,
I have XP SP2 with all up to date updates (as of a week or two ago) and the latest IE 6 installed. All of a sudden Windows Update stopped working. It just sits on "Checking if your computer has the latest version of Windows updating software for use with the website." message for some time and then times out. When it does, I get the following error: "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. ..." I'm guessing, this is related so I'm gonna mention it too. Bringing up Services from Control Panel displays an error "Object doesn't support this property or method" line/char 31/12. I'd very much appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks in advance. -- Sergey |

Are you running a pop-up stopper, Zone Alarm or other third-party firewall?
See if disabling it makes any difference, Sergey. Also see "Scan for updates freezes or stops at 0%" at http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/ -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Security, Shell/User) Sergey M wrote: > Hi all, > > I have XP SP2 with all up to date updates (as of a week or two ago) > and the latest IE 6 installed. Done a bit more digging and found a relatively new KB article that fixed it for me: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909889 Thought I'd share it with you.
