I have a new Dell Lattitude with XP and Norton 2005. All was fine until three
weeks ago when Norton had an "update". Since then I have been unable to download my e-mail. Norton website suggests turning off the protection while e-mail downloads. The must be a safer way. I have installed another protection for this purpose but this all seems way too much ..anyone else have this problem? |

And your Windows Update problem is...?
Your Mail Client is... (e.g., Outlook, Outlook Express)? What happens when you try to Receive mail? 1. Run Norton LiveUpdate manually and repeatedly until you get the 'No additional updates available' prompt. 2. Disable NAV's Email Protection. They're right: It provides no additional protection. Even Symantec says it's not necessary: <paste> Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus definitions. </paste> http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...02111812533106 Troubleshooting error messages that you receive when you are using OL and OE http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813514 -- OE6-specific newsgroup: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...tlooke xpress OE General newsgroup: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...xpress.general OL General newsgroup: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...utlook.general ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Security, Shell/User) Inside Outlook Express http://www.insideoe.com Caroline wrote: > I have a new Dell Lattitude with XP and Norton 2005.
