I am running Windows XP and trying to download updates from the Windows
Updates website results in an installation failure, error code 0x80246008.
There are namely three files/program downloads: MS Windows Installer 3.1,
Update for Windows XP (KB898461) and Windows Genuine Advantage Validation
Tool (KB892130). I tried a clean boot in Windows XP but the problem persists.
The updates mentioned above would not download. Can anybody help?

Most likely a BITS-problem.
