I downloaded "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0: x86 (KB829019)" but it will not
install. The error message is "A problem on your computer is preventing
updates from being downloaded or installed." I have tried several time but
get the same message. The update is downloaded but will not install. Where
are the downloads stored. Maybe if I delete them it will work. This is the
first update problem I have had so it is strange. I am using
update.microsoft.com.

I went to the download center and downloaded & installed .NET 2.0 without a
problem. So I do not know what the problem was using update.microsoft.com.

I had the same problem. Turned out I had a beta version of .net 2.0 already
installed. uninstalling this allows the update to be installed

That is not my problem. As I posted, it worked form the download center.

Again, where are downloads stored before install?
